Safeeha Jabbar Khattak defends influencers on the runway amid Bridal Couture Week backlash
Model and actor Safeeha Jabbar Khattak has weighed in on the growing, divided debate over influencers on fashion runways — and she’s standing firmly with content creators.
After criticism erupted over TikTok stars and influencers walking the ramp at the 23rd Bridal Couture Week (BCW) in Lahore, Khattak responded on Instagram, calling the shift “completely valid” and something that should be “respectfully accepted.” She reposted a video by influencer Manhoor (noor.mood2), agreeing that influencers are invited less for runway technique and more for visibility, conversation and reach — because outfits get remembered when people are talking.
Khattak also acknowledged that she wasn’t always supportive of the influencer space, but said her perspective changed with time. She described content creation as demanding and far from effortless, noting that creators work daily, generate real revenue and constantly have to show up online.

The discussion intensified as BCW clips flooded social media, with much of the backlash aimed at creators without traditional runway training. Viral couple Hemayal and Ali Aizat walked for Ali Xeeshan, while Jannat Mirza appeared as HSY’s showstopper — and faced sharp criticism over her walk and expressions. When Mirza later admitted the experience was harder than expected due to pressure and lighting, critics accused TikTok stars of relying on filters rather than skill.
Khattak widened the lens, saying the influencer shift isn’t unique to Pakistan. She pointed to global creators being cast in films, shows and major campaigns, naming figures like Khaby Lame, Mikayla Nogueira, Jeffree Star and the D’Amelio sisters. She also highlighted Pakistani creators gaining international recognition, arguing that influence today is a measurable currency, not just an online trend.
At the same time, she suggested the real problem isn’t who appears on the runway — but how quickly audiences pull down their own while consuming the same influencer culture abroad without question. BCW, she noted, has always relied on celebrity presence, and in today’s era, creators bring the same crowd-pulling power.

Not everyone agreed. One follower argued that, even internationally, runways are led by trained professionals and said the bigger loss is creativity. Khattak didn’t reject the point, but redirected it, saying that responsibility ultimately lies with management, designers and organisers — not influencers.
She reflected on a “golden era” of BCW when production, sponsorships and talent felt aligned, but added that the industry has changed. Fashion weeks, she said, aren’t sustainable in the same way anymore, citing long hours, poor conditions, underpayment and burnout as reasons many professionals stepped away. With designers moving toward more commercial lines, couture naturally took a backseat, and unconventional work is often met with harsh criticism.
Her takeaway was clear: every era has its own appeal, and it’s unfair to blame influencers when designers and organisers are the ones making casting decisions. In a fashion world driven by reach and virality, the numbers shape the runway — and platforms may change, but hype and visibility have always influenced who gets the spotlight.

Nauman Ijaz replies to Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s criticism
Renowned Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz has responded with grace and restraint to the sharp and controversial criticism directed at him by writer-director Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
The exchange has reignited long-standing public tensions between the two figures, whose professional disagreements have surfaced in media discussions in the past.
Recently, during an appearance on a private television channel, Qamar openly stated that he personally dislikes Nauman Ijaz and harbors hatred toward him, using harsh language that ignited widespread debate and criticism across social media.
In a composed reply during an interview on another TV program, Ijaz addressed Qamar’s remarks by stating, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” and added that only Qamar himself could explain the reasons behind his statements.
The actor further emphasized that while he is a public figure, he is not public property, and urged people to refrain from making inappropriate remarks about his personal life and family.
The seasoned actor also spoke about the diminishing value of honesty and integrity in professional and social spheres. He said, “In Pakistan, there is no place for an honest person. Hard work and dedication are undervalued. Many want to work sincerely, but systemic injustices and delays prevent them from receiving their due. If I work honestly, I should be compensated on time, but unfortunately, this is rarely the practice here.”
