A prominent place in the world of art is now being carved out by Shehnaz Sheikh—once a celebrated actress of the past—as her solo exhibition, which is based on a beautiful blend of colours, culture and nature, won the hearts of audiences.
Fifteen valuable artworks were displayed at Ocean Art Gallery as part of Sheikh’s second solo show. Canvases portraying natural beauty, flowers and birds through diverse mixed colours were presented during the four-day exhibition.
Fabric designers were among the visitors, and one of them stated that inspiration had been drawn from Sheikh’s paintings, while also hinting that these artworks might be brought into fabric design.
On the occasion, it was stated by Sheikh that no titles are carried by her works, with the freedom to imagine left to the audience. It was also added by her that her purpose is to spread happiness, and that experiments with mixed colours on paper have also been conducted by her.
It was said by renowned artist Qaiser Ishrat that Sheikh is a complete artist, whose painstaking pieces have been created—pieces that reflect Eastern culture while highlighting the hues of the peacock.
The finesse and intricacy in her work were noted by artist Mehtab Ali, who also pointed out the striking use of blue and the unique compositions of pearls, elephants and horses that convey dreamlike stories. It was stated by him that Sheikh graduated from NCA in 1977, and that her passion is evident in her art.
It was said by designer Tayaba Asif that balanced colours and artistic depth mark Sheikh’s paintings. The beauty of the artworks was praised by her, and a wish to adapt Sheikh’s creations into fabric design was expressed by her.
