Sonya Hussaiyn urges public to report child abuse and domestic violence

Actor Sonya Hussaiyn has urged people to become more aware of child safety, domestic violence and consent, calling on Pakistanis to report abuse and break the silence around violence against women and children.

Speaking to the media at a crime prevention seminar in Karachi, Sonya stressed the need to report missing children and encouraged citizens to use the police’s dedicated Missing Persons Unit, known as MILAP.

She said the police department has created a special unit and form for missing children, adding that anyone with information about a missing child should immediately contact helpline 15.

The actor also appealed to communities not to ignore domestic violence or dismiss it as a private family matter. She warned that staying silent in such cases can lead to serious consequences and urged people to inform the police when they witness abuse.

Sonya also renewed her support for #InkaarKaro, an awareness campaign launched by Angeline Malik to promote consent, encourage survivors to speak up and challenge the normalisation of abuse.

The campaign aims to educate people about recognising and rejecting boundary violations before they escalate. It has been supported by several well-known figures from Pakistan’s entertainment industry, including Samina Ahmed, Frieha Altaf, Sheema Kirmani, Sanam Saeed, Ayesha Omar, Nadia Hussain, Zhalay Sarhadi, Arjumand Rahim, Zoe Viccaji, Farah Shah, Tooba Siddiqui and Faiza Saleem.

Reflecting on the campaign’s message in an Instagram post, Sonya said consent must always be respected and personal boundaries should never be violated.

She wrote that no one owes anyone access to their body and urged people to say no immediately, without guilt or apology. She added that consent is a right, not a favour, and that the courage to say no can save a life.

Sonya concluded by calling for a wider cultural change in how society teaches consent, dignity and respect. She said consent must be clear, voluntary and respected every time, adding that “No” should be understood as the end of the conversation, not an invitation to persuade.

Reflecting on the campaign’s message, Hussaiyn shared an unapologetic statement on Instagram regarding personal boundaries and the fundamental definition of consent. “You never owe anyone access to your body if you don’t want it,” Hussaiyn wrote passionately to her followers. “Say NO immediately, unapologetically, and without guilt. Sharing consent is one’s right, not a favor. The courage to say no can save a life.”

Hussaiyn concluded her message by challenging society to shift how it teaches and interprets boundaries across generations: “Consent must be clear, voluntary, and respected every single time. Let’s raise a generation that understands boundaries, values dignity, and knows that ‘No’ is never an invitation to persuade. It’s the end of the conversation.”

Sanam Jung questions Karachi’s e-challan system after six traffic fines

Pakistani actor and television host Sanam Jung says she received six traffic e-challans within a month of returning to Pakistan, claiming that several were issued for violations she did not commit.

In an Instagram video, Sanam said the repeated fines had frustrated her family, particularly her father. She accepted responsibility for the first challan, which was issued for using a mobile phone while driving.

However, she disputed some of the later fines, including one for allegedly not wearing a seat belt. Sanam said fastening a seat belt had become a regular habit during her time abroad and insisted that she never begins driving without it.

Questioning the accuracy of the system, she expressed concern over being penalised for offences she says did not occur.

Tipu Sharif laments Karachi’s disappearing trees and shrinking green spaces

Actor Tipu Sharif has urged Karachi residents to plant more trees as rapid development continues to shrink the city’s green spaces.

Sharing an Instagram video of himself distributing plantation supplies, Sharif encouraged people to take part in tree-planting drives. He remarked that many graveyards now appear greener than residential areas and called for living spaces to be made equally green.

The actor warned that Karachi is losing trees at an alarming rate, leading to hotter streets, poorer air quality, less shade and fewer birds.

Referring to the monsoon season, Sharif said it presented the ideal opportunity to increase the city’s greenery. “The monsoon season is starting in Karachi. There’s no better time to start planting trees. I request you guys to fill Karachi’s roads, footpaths, and alleys. Please plant trees everywhere and increase greenery,” he said.

Highlighting the city’s rapid construction and property developments, the actor warned that continued deforestation could lead to serious environmental and health concerns. “In Karachi, there is not even two per cent of trees left and there’s construction and development happening. After a few years, we won’t even be able to breathe,” he stated.

Regarding his own efforts to combat the issue, Sharif shared that he had been distributing agricultural material across different parts of the city. “Today I am at the forestry nursery, taking 200 peepal trees to be planted in different areas, cemeteries, and places where greenery is lacking,” he said.

“Just think, people who have already passed away have greener surroundings in these cemeteries, while people living today don’t have clean air to breathe. Why is this?” the actor questioned.

Concluding his message, Sharif wrote, “Our one simple goal is to leave behind shade for people we’ll probably never meet. A tree planted today is a gift to future generations. Let’s stop turning Karachi into a concrete jungle and start bringing life back, one tree at a time.”

Sharif is known for his performances in dramas including Tapish, Humrahi, and Sitaron Se Agay. Along with advocating for environmental conservation, the actor also runs an advocacy page on Instagram addressing issues regarding animal abuse and sharing content about distributing food among the homeless.
