Consumer Court Issues Notice After Maria.B Customer Receives Flour Sack Instead of Rs55,000 Order

A luxury fashion delivery turned into an unbelievable shock for a Karachi consumer, after an online clothing order worth over Rs50,000 allegedly arrived as a sack of flour instead of designer outfits. The bizarre incident has now landed both a well-known clothing brand and a courier company in consumer court.

The consumer court (East) has formally issued notices to Maria.B and PostEx (Pvt) Ltd, summoning them to respond to allegations of negligence and unfair trade practices. The defendants have been directed to appear before the court on January 31.

According to court documents, the complaint was filed by Muhammad Usman Malik, who claimed he placed an order for garments worth Rs55,864 through the brand’s official website on December 1, 2025. A few days later, he received confirmation from the courier service that his parcel was out for delivery, complete with rider details and a tracking number.

The trouble began after the package was handed over and opened.

Instead of the branded clothing he had paid for, the parcel allegedly contained a five-kilogram bag of flour, leaving the customer stunned and confused. Malik described the incident as not only financially damaging but emotionally distressing, especially given the high value of the order.

Following the discovery, the complainant reached out to the brand’s customer support via email. However, he claimed that his complaint did not receive a timely or satisfactory response. Screenshots of the email correspondence were later submitted to the court as part of the evidence.

With no immediate resolution in sight, Malik sent a formal legal notice to both the clothing brand and the courier company through his lawyer. In response, the brand initially assured him that a refund would be processed. However, the situation allegedly took another frustrating turn when the brand later offered a voucher or discount coupon instead of returning the actual amount paid.

The complainant has termed this offer a deliberate delay tactic and a failure to acknowledge the seriousness of the issue. He argues that a coupon cannot replace a cash refund for an order that was never fulfilled.

In his plea before the consumer court, Malik has requested a decree directing the defendants to refund Rs55,864 with an additional 25 percent interest. He has also sought Rs200,000 in compensation for mental anguish, stress, inconvenience, and the emotional toll caused by the incident.

After a preliminary hearing, the court found sufficient grounds to move forward and summoned both parties. The case has since sparked widespread discussion online, raising concerns over e-commerce accountability, courier handling practices, and consumer rights in Pakistan.

As online shopping continues to grow rapidly, this unusual case highlights the importance of transparent customer service, secure logistics, and swift dispute resolution. All eyes are now on the January 31 hearing, which may set an important precedent for similar consumer complaints in the future.
