Pakistani actor and television host Javeria Saud has sparked a conversation about beauty standards, cosmetic procedures and the growing pressure on women to maintain a certain body shape.
During a recent episode of her podcast, Javeria spoke openly about what she described as an unhealthy obsession among some women with achieving a “size zero” figure. She also discussed the lengths some people go to in order to copy the appearance of Bollywood actresses, including undergoing cosmetic procedures.
Javeria said that beauty trends have become so influential that some girls want to change their facial features to resemble popular Bollywood stars such as Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
According to the actor, even the use of photo filters has become a regular part of this pursuit of perfection. However, she revealed that her own children are strongly against the practice and often question her whenever she edits her pictures.
“My kids fight with me when I put filters on my pictures,” Javeria said on her podcast. She recalled her children asking her why she felt the need to alter her appearance when she was already created by Allah.
Javeria added that her children have taken their disapproval of filters a step further. She said they have even deleted the photo-editing app from her phone, although she admitted that she simply downloads it again.
The conversation then shifted toward body image and the pressure women face to become extremely thin. Javeria particularly questioned the trend among women over the age of 30, arguing that excessive dieting can have consequences beyond simply losing weight.
