The wait is finally over for fans of the legendary Inspector Jamshed books, and judging by the first trailer, the upcoming film is going bigger than anyone expected.
The trailer for Inspector Jamsheed: The Secret Parchment, starring Omair Rana and Ahad Raza Mir, has dropped, and it looks less like a conventional Pakistani film and more like a full-scale international spy adventure. High-speed cars, gunfights, explosions, mysterious gadgets and secret societies all make an appearance, giving the film an unmistakably Hollywood-style action feel.
DRM Production unveiled the official trailer on Friday, putting Omair Rana front and centre as Inspector Jamsheed. The project marks Rana’s silver-screen debut, with the highly anticipated movie currently scheduled to hit cinemas in 2027.
The story covers a mysterious parchment that appears to hold the key to a much larger conspiracy. But Jamsheed has another problem on his hands - a string of murders points toward Behzaad, played by Ahad Raza Mir, who seems to be having the time of his life as the film’s charming yet unpredictable villain.
Ahad’s character is clearly not your typical bad guy. Behzaad comes across as handsome, eccentric and dangerous, making his presence one of the most intriguing elements of the trailer. His actions eventually put Jamsheed’s entire family in danger, particularly when he kidnaps Jamsheed’s daughter.
That family angle gives the otherwise action-heavy story a more emotional layer. Inspector Jamsheed isn't fighting this battle alone. His three children - Mehmood, Farooq and Farzana - join him on the dangerous mission. Ravel Imran plays Mehmood, while siblings Ahmed and Aline Harkous take on the roles of Farooq and Farzana.
Anoushay Abbasi plays Shakeela, Jamsheed’s wife, while Asif Raza Mir appears as Khan Rehman, the inspector’s loyal friend. Mir is also serving as a co-producer on the project.
The trailer certainly doesn't hold back when it comes to spectacle. There are explosions, elaborate gadgets, action sequences and plenty of sweeping shots of Abu Dhabi, where the film was shot. The scale of the production is immediately noticeable, with the visuals suggesting that the makers are aiming for something much larger than a straightforward adaptation of a children's adventure series.
But beneath all the action, there appears to be a family conflict brewing as well. Shakeela seems increasingly caught between concern for her family and the dangerous world Jamsheed has dragged them into. With their daughter kidnapped by Behzaad, the tension between the couple could become one of the film's emotional driving forces.
The movie draws its story from the hugely popular Urdu children's novels written by Ishtiaq Ahmed. For generations of readers, Inspector Jamshed was more than just a fictional detective. The series followed the super spy and his three children as they travelled through dangerous adventures, battled villains and uncovered sinister plots with help from a memorable collection of supporting characters.
Ahmed began writing in 1973 and went on to produce an extraordinary body of work, reportedly writing almost 800 books during his lifetime. Alongside Inspector Jamshed, he was also known for popular series including Inspector Kamran Mirza and Shoki Brothers. The celebrated writer died in 2015.
For Ahad Raza Mir and Faran Tahir, who plays Zafar Burki in the film, the adaptation also carries a personal connection. In an earlier clip, both actors spoke about how special the project was to them because they had grown up reading the books.
Omair Rana has similarly described the production as an enormous international undertaking, calling it like “the whole world coming together.” The cast and crew reportedly represent more than 13 nationalities, adding an unusually global dimension to the Pakistani production.
