What Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz’s First Auditions Were Really Like

Pakistani actor and influencer Tahseen W. Chishty has added an interesting chapter to Pakistan’s music history with a recent revelation that has surprised fans across social media. Known for his charming screen presence and versatile acting, Tahseen shared a lesser-known story from his early career, one that connects him directly to the rise of two of Pakistan’s biggest music stars, Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz.

A graduate of the National College of Arts (NCA), Tahseen W. Chishty rose to fame with the hit drama Fairy Tale, where his portrayal of Hilal Pasha earned him widespread appreciation. Over the years, he has also appeared in popular projects such as Meem Se Mohabbat and Meri Bahuwain, the latter currently airing and receiving praise for his performance. Alongside television dramas, Tahseen has remained a familiar face through high-profile television commercials and a strong social media presence.

Recently, Tahseen appeared on the Views Matters podcast hosted by Ali Dar, where he opened up about an unexpected role he played in shaping Pakistan’s music scene. During the conversation, he revealed that he was the one who conducted the very first auditions of Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz during their college days.

According to Tahseen, both Atif and Goher were students at PICS College at the time. He shared that he was invited to judge a college singing competition through a personal reference, as the event organizers wanted someone to discreetly shortlist talent. That decision, he says, led him to encounter two young performers who would later redefine Pakistan’s pop and rock music.

Recalling the moment vividly, Tahseen revealed that Atif Aslam approached him just before the auditions, explaining that he was unwell but confident in his voice. Despite having flu, Atif requested a chance to perform and that performance was enough to leave a lasting impression. Tahseen confirmed that he selected Atif based on his raw talent, unaware at the time of how massive his future stardom would become.

He also clarified that Goher Mumtaz had initially come forward as a musician rather than a vocalist, highlighting how early and experimental those days were for both artists.
