Hajra Yamin: “I Would’ve Played Noor Jahan If I Were Older”
Actress Hajra Yamin is earning praise for her role as Sumbul in the drama Noor Jahan. During a guest appearance on Gloss Etc with Maliha Rehman, she was asked if she would prefer to play another character in the drama.
“I’d still choose Sumbul,” Hajra said, “but if I were older, I’d definitely play Noor Jahan. What a character, and what an amazing job. Despite the negativity, she’s such a powerful woman. I love it.”
The host also inquired whether Saba Hamid, who portrays Noor Jahan, is as strict off-screen as she appears on-screen. Hajra responded, “To be honest, sometimes people who seem strict are more anxious than we realize. Maybe it’s social anxiety. I have a bit of it myself, which can come across as arrogance. Saba Aapa, with her immense talent, was a bit intimidating at first, especially since much of my work was with her or Kubra Khan. But she was clear and professional. There was one moment where I felt nervous, but Musadik, our director, reassured me, and it worked out.”
She continued to praise Saba Hamid, adding, “I sometimes forget my lines, but Saba Aapa never does. She’s a true professional. Her on-screen performance was even more powerful in person—the stern glances, the tone. She never raised her voice, but the emphasis in her words was unforgettable. I’m glad viewers can see these nuances.”
Noor Jahan, written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Musadik Malek, airs on ARY Digital every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM.
