Following India's decision to lift its ban on Pakistani actors in Bollywood, Fawad Khan announced his much-anticipated return to the Indian film industry with his upcoming project, Abir Gulaal, where he stars alongside Vaani Kapoor.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Abir Gulaal co-star Ridhi Dogra shared that she took steps to ensure all legal permissions were fully in order before signing on to work with Fawad. Emphasizing the universality of art, Ridhi expressed, “Art has no boundaries,” adding that she doesn’t let an actor’s nationality influence her choice of roles. She clarified, however, that “the only precaution I took was verifying whether I could legally work with someone from Pakistan. If it hadn’t been permitted, I would have declined the project."
Ridhi also revealed that people encouraged her from a young age to explore a career abroad, as they believed it would be spiritually beneficial. Yet, her love and loyalty to India’s rich cultural heritage have always kept her rooted in the country’s entertainment industry. Filming for Abir Gulaal began in London in October, with director Aarti S Bagdi describing the project as a romantic-comedy that follows a transformative healing journey for both lead characters, who ultimately discover love along the way.
