A viral clip from a private TV Ramadan transmission shows an Islamic scholar criticizing the trend of altering traditional Islamic names, specifically addressing actress Urwa Hocane's choice to spell her surname as "Hocane" instead of the original "Hussain."
During the discussion, which focused on modern naming conventions, the host cited Urwa Hocane as an example and asked for a religious perspective.
The Mufti stated that deliberately changing or distorting a name given by one’s parents is not permissible in Islam. He clarified that "Hocane" is not an Arabic name and adopting such stylized versions is incorrect.
