Pakistani actor Saba Faisal has once again found herself at the centre of a social media debate after comments she made about divorce and the way families respond to separation.

During a recent talk show appearance, Faisal reflected on how divorce was viewed in previous generations, arguing that the end of a marriage once brought a much more intense period of grief and social shame for families. She recalled that families would mourn for months and claimed that fathers whose daughters went through divorce could struggle to face people in public.
“Previously, when there was a divorce in a family, people used to mourn for three months. There used to be a proper period of grief; fathers could not even face the world,” Faisal said.
She then contrasted that reaction with what she described as a more relaxed attitude toward divorce today. According to the actor, separation has increasingly become something people discuss more casually, rather than an event surrounded by the same level of grief and social pressure.
Faisal illustrated her point by describing a conversation in which a woman tells a friend that she has been divorced for several months and has returned from abroad after taking time to clear her mind. She suggested that such situations reflected a broader change in attitudes toward marriage and separation, adding that she believed things were moving in a negative direction.
Her comments quickly spread across social media, where viewers debated whether the changing perception of divorce should be seen as a decline in the importance attached to marriage or as a shift away from the stigma that traditionally surrounded separated women.
Several actors also joined the discussion. Zoya Nasir reacted strongly to the remarks, writing, “Oh. My. God. I have SO much to say! With all due respect, what a dangerous and twisted narrative.”
