Shaan Shahid Says Humayun Saeed and Fahad Mustafa Prefer ‘Comfort Zones’ Over Creative Risks

Veteran actor Shaan Shahid has stirred fresh debate in Pakistan’s entertainment circles after candidly sharing his thoughts on the creative direction of the industry and the choices of some of its biggest stars.

Appearing on Rise & Shine, Shahid spoke openly about fellow actors Humayun Saeed and Fahad Mustafa, acknowledging their success but suggesting they tend to remain within familiar territory. According to him, while both actors excel at what they do, they appear more inclined to operate within their “comfort zones” rather than pushing the boundaries of their craft.

Despite the critique, Shahid maintained a respectful tone, emphasizing that collaboration always offers room to learn. However, he hinted that creative risk-taking, something he clearly values, is often missing from mainstream projects.

He argued that while production budgets in Pakistan have grown, the same cannot be said for creative thinking. For him, the industry has become increasingly obsessed with numbers, where box office figures overshadow storytelling. Referencing his recent film Bullah, he pointed out how a relatively modest budget project managed to deliver strong returns, underscoring his belief that substance defines success.

Interestingly, Shahid expressed a clear preference for Punjabi cinema, praising its raw connection with audiences. In his view, Punjabi films may lack massive budgets, but they continue to resonate because they prioritize storytelling over spectacle.

The conversation also turned nostalgic when host Nadia Khan brought up the possibility of reunions with iconic co-stars like Reema Khan and Saima Noor. Shahid admitted he would welcome such collaborations but pointed to deep-rooted divisions within the industry, particularly between Karachi and Lahore, as a major obstacle. He described the environment as fragmented, where individuals operate within their own spheres of influence rather than contributing to a unified creative space.

Another concern he raised was the growing influence of social media metrics. Shahid lamented that talent is increasingly being overshadowed by likes, trends, and viral appeal. In his view, this shift has diluted content quality, creating an ecosystem where visibility often trumps ability.

The actor also addressed his upcoming project Psycho and spoke warmly about working with Meera. He praised her dedication to improving her craft, drawing parallels to the work ethic he witnessed in his own mother. However, his tone turned critical when discussing a recent interview involving Meera, where he felt the line between journalism and intrusion had been crossed. Shahid described the questioning as inappropriate, stressing that entertainment journalism must maintain a level of respect and ethical responsibility.

Expanding on industry practices, Shahid criticized producers for inflating film budgets, arguing that such narratives create unnecessary barriers for new filmmakers trying to enter the field. He believes that success stories should inspire growth and accessibility.

He expressed skepticism about Pakistani actors working in India, suggesting that such opportunities often come with limitations. Drawing a comparison to how Pakistani cricketers have historically been treated, he questioned the long-term value of these collaborations. While acknowledging that others are free to make their own choices, Shahid made it clear that he sees greater worth in building and strengthening the local industry.

Pakistani comedy Aag Lagey Basti Mein has returned to cinemas across the country following strong public demand after its Eid-ul-Fitr release.

Starring Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa, the film performed well despite releasing alongside local titles Delhi Gate and Bullah, as well as international films Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and Project Hail Mary.

The film reunites Mahira and Fahad after Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad. They play Almas and Barkat, a married couple whose contrasting personalities and hidden truths drive the story.

Mahira’s Almas is a fashion-loving dreamer determined to move to Dubai, while Fahad plays Barkat, a restrained and conflicted man trying to avoid his family’s criminal path. After marriage, the couple discover that both had concealed important details about their lives.

Their financial struggles force Almas to work as a maid and Barkat as a janitor. Their situation worsens when Barkat is accused of theft, pushing the couple into a chaotic journey involving poverty, crime and their dream of reaching Dubai.

The film blends comedy with social issues, including child labour, financial hardship and the influence of criminal groups. Guest appearances and comic situations add energy, while Javed Sheikh and Tabish Hashmi feature in key supporting roles.

However, the story’s sudden shift from emotional drama to dark slapstick comedy in the second half feels abrupt. Some scenes also run longer than necessary, while the visuals occasionally resemble television production rather than polished cinema.

Despite its uneven pacing and tonal changes, Aag Lagey Basti Mein delivers several entertaining moments. Mahira and Fahad’s chemistry remains its strongest feature, making it an enjoyable lighthearted watch for families and friends.

In the now-unavailable posts, Huma claimed that the cricketer had threatened and harassed her despite the two having no contact for nearly two months. She described him as a “cheat, fraud, and womaniser,” alleging that his behavior had crossed every boundary and left her feeling compelled to finally speak out.

The crowning ceremony was held at Lahore’s iconic Faletti’s Hotel, where Anniqa Meraj received the coveted title in a celebration attended by pageant officials and supporters. During the same event, Attaullah Gujjar was also crowned Mr. Pakistan World, adding another highlight to the occasion.

At just 24 years old, Meraj has already built an impressive profile that extends far beyond beauty pageants. Holding a degree in Business Administration and Economics, she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Auditing and Accounting, balancing academic excellence with an active career on the international stage.

Speaking about her aspirations, Meraj shared that her long-term goal is to become a State-Authorised Public Accountant. Alongside her professional ambitions, she also hopes to use her platform to champion causes close to her heart, particularly children’s rights and girls’ education, believing these initiatives can contribute to a stronger future for Pakistan.

This is not her first experience representing Pakistan before a global audience. Over the years, she has proudly carried the national flag at several international competitions, including Miss Earth, Miss Global, Miss Cosmo, Miss Eco International, and Miss Aura International. Her journey has also been decorated with success, including winning four titles at the Freedom of the World competition held in Kosovo.

Pakistan’s debut at the Miss World pageant represents another significant step in the country’s expanding presence in international beauty contests.
