Veteran Pakistani actress Shaista Jabeen has said that television needs more original stories and different kinds of characters. She believes the industry is depending too much on old ideas and similar types of roles that audiences have already seen many times before.

Jabeen is currently preparing to appear in Express Entertainment's upcoming drama Ikhtiyaar, which features a large cast including Shahroz Sabzwari, Srha Asghar, Faiza Hassan, and Yasir Nawaz.

While talking about the drama, Jabeen described Ikhtiyaar as a strong and emotionally touching project. She praised both the story and the way her fellow actors had brought their characters to life.

"It is a phenomenal drama and a story that touches the heart," she said, adding that the cast had done an excellent job with their roles.

The senior actress also appreciated the production facilities provided for the project. She mentioned that she did not face any major problems during the shoot. She was especially impressed by the set, calling it "outstanding" and saying it reminded her of the television productions she worked on earlier in her career.

Jabeen started her acting journey on stage in the 1980s and later moved to television. She became widely known through PTV productions during the 1990s. Her breakthrough role came with Dasht, while Aaghosh, Duniya Dari, and Beti are among her other well-known television dramas. Over the course of her career, she has appeared in more than 50 television serials.

While reflecting on how the television industry has changed over time, Jabeen said the working environment and production quality had improved a great deal over the years.

"Earlier, we managed to do more with less. Now, there is more, but we are managing with less," she said, describing it as one of the biggest changes she has noticed throughout her career.

However, she believes the most serious problem facing Pakistani television today is the shortage of fresh and original writing.
