Singer Falak Shabir has voiced his support for the music reality show Pakistan Idol, which has recently drawn both praise and controversy—particularly over some artists refusing to let contestants perform their songs.
In a post on Instagram, Falak announced that all Pakistan Idol contestants are welcome to perform any of his tracks during the competition.
“I give Pakistan Idol full permission to use all of my songs so that aspiring singers can showcase their talent and represent Pakistan on a global stage,” he wrote. “I stand by the judges and all the gifted participants of Pakistan Idol.”
Falak’s statement came shortly after veteran singer Sajjad Ali disclosed that contestants are prohibited from performing his songs due to an unresolved copyright issue with the show’s organizers.
Speaking at a press conference in Canada, Sajjad Ali explained that Pakistan Idol had reached out to secure rights to his music, but negotiations fell through over financial terms. He added that the limited catalog of licensed songs has reduced performance diversity, noting, “Every contestant wanted to sing our songs, and those who did would often receive huge appreciation — even win.”
