As cricket lovers’ emotions run high with the T20 World Cup in full swing, Aijaz Aslam addressed a recent troubling phenomenon: body shaming Azam Khan. Witnessing online trolls targeting the cricketer, Aslam argued that body shaming is pure vitriol, not constructive criticism.
Body Shaming Azam Khan: An Unnecessary Attack
Taking to his Instagram Story, veteran actor Aijaz Aslam expressed his disappointment over the personal attacks directed at the young athlete. "Why are people body shaming Azam Khan? It’s not understandable and it’s very below-the-belt behavior from many," Aijaz wrote. He emphasized that while criticism is a natural part of sports, it should be focused on performance rather than personal appearance. "Criticism is part of the game, but we can criticize his performance without resorting to body shaming," he added.
Azam Khan, 25, has been under harsh scrutiny for what many perceive as poor performance this T20 season, with critics unjustly dragging his physique into the mix. Aijaz highlighted the harmful effects of such negativity on a young player's mental health, pointing out that such undue pressure can be detrimental. "He’s a young man and such negativity puts undue pressure and stress on his mental health," Aslam noted. He defended Azam's inclusion in the team, underscoring that every player has good and bad days. "Azam is in the team for a reason, boasting a strike rate of 148 in T20," Aijaz concluded, urging the public to cease body shaming and allow Azam to live and perform without such pressures.
