Pakistani celebrities have voiced grief and outrage following a devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad that resulted in the deaths of 14 newborn infants.
Veteran actor Muhammad Ahmed shared a video message on Instagram, raising questions about why those responsible for previous tragedies had not yet been held accountable.
"15 children and several before," he wrote, making reference to the latest catastrophe as well as earlier incidents involving young children.
"We hear news about children on a regular basis. We will forget these 15 also, just as we did before," he further added.
Muhammad Ahmed questioned why the individuals responsible for such incidents had escaped punishment and expressed deep sorrow for the mothers who had lost their newborn babies.
Actor Azekah Deniel also condemned what she described as an "incompetent system" in the wake of the deaths. She remarked that the value of life in the country frequently comes down to public condemnation for a week or two before people shift their attention to the next tragedy or breaking news story.
Zara Noor Abbas also addressed the incident through a video story. She stated that repeated tragedies were "forcing us to take matters and law and order into our own hands" because, in her view, those responsible were not being properly questioned or held accountable.
Zunaira Inam Khan expressed her grief and strongly criticized the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"This is not a terrible accident; it is a result of criminal negligence and mismanagement," she asserted.
Sabeena Farooq also turned to social media to inquire about the infants, writing, "Where are the babies? #PIMS".
Actors Ahsan Khan and Nadia Afghan reshared a video showing a mother caring for her child and urged authorities to hand over the remains of the babies to their grieving families.
Romaisa Khan also expressed sorrow over the deaths.
"14 newborn babies in Islamabad. These are not headlines. These were lives," she wrote.
