Mahira Khan arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival with plenty to celebrate. The Pakistani star was there to represent Pakistan, moderate a conversation on South Asian storytelling and receive an award for her contribution to cinema. But her TIFF appearance also became personal in a way no one expected.

The actor revealed that she is expecting her second child, 17 years after welcoming her son, Azlan. At 41, Mahira admitted that this pregnancy has been very different from her first, both physically and emotionally.
“I'm literally a different woman,” she told Images, comparing her current experience to being pregnant at 24.
Her TIFF schedule included the world premiere of Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, directed by Pakistani-origin filmmaker Bassam Tariq and starring Mahershala Ali. She also moderated a discussion with Tariq about representation, storytelling and the South Asian diaspora.
Mahira and Tariq are also set to receive the Muslim Excellence in Cinema and Art award at the Muslim International Film Festival Toronto.
