Actor Sahar Hashmi has addressed the backlash over her on-screen hugging scenes, saying the criticism left her hurt and confused.

In a recent interview, Sahar said comparisons with Indian actor Emraan Hashmi were unfair. Social media users had labelled her “Pakistan’s Emraan Hashmi” after scenes in Zanjeerain and Shaidai.

She explained that the scenes were part of the script and were filmed only when required by the story. Sahar added that the director had given her the choice to perform them only if she felt comfortable.

The actor said performers should not be blamed for following a script, but admitted the criticism has made her more cautious about accepting similar scenes in the future. She added that audience opinions matter, though criticism should remain respectful.

Sahar also revealed that the online hate affected her emotionally and that she often cried because of the negative comments. She said support from colleagues, including Shehzad Sheikh, Nawal Saeed, Feroze Khan and her director, helped her through the difficult period.

Speaking about Zanjeerain, Sahar said she accepted the project mainly for the chance to work with Sajal Aly, whom she admires. She also shared that she had initially declined the role because the character’s death reminded her of losing her mother, but later agreed after producer Momina Duraid personally approached her.
