TV host and actor Sahir Lodhi has landed in legal trouble after Karachi police registered a case against him over a dispute involving eight allegedly bounced cheques.
The case was registered after a woman approached the court and requested legal proceedings against the television personality. Police said the FIR was registered on the court's directions.
According to reports, Shah Latif Town police booked Lodhi under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code, a provision concerning the dishonest issuance of a cheque that is later dishonoured. Section 34, which relates to acts carried out with common intention, has also been included in the case.
Station House Officer Ghulam Nabi Afridi confirmed the development to a private media outlet. The complainant, identified as Naghma Gul, is reportedly known to Lodhi as a business associate.
Gul, a widow who lives in Landhi, told police that she was introduced to Lodhi as a potential investment opportunity through someone known to her. She alleged that she eventually handed over Rs4 million to the actor and host for investment purposes.
According to the complaint, the arrangement initially appeared to be working. Gul claimed that Lodhi subsequently gave her Rs250,000 and Rs400,000, which she described as profits from the investment.
