Pakistani actor Hania Aamir has landed in hot water after sharing a video of herself riding a scooter without any safety precautions, a move that generated strong criticism from activist Shaniera Akram. Known for her tireless advocacy for road safety, Akram called the stunt both “illegal” and “stupid,” warning about the dangerous message it sends to millions of young fans.
The viral video, posted on Hania’s Instagram, shows her standing behind a man on a moving scooter, wearing heels and dancing as the vehicle weaves through the road. While the clip may have been intended as lighthearted fun, it quickly drew the ire of Shaniera Akram, who has long campaigned for helmet use and responsible driving practices in Pakistan.
“This is like a dagger to my heart,” Akram wrote in her Instagram stories. “Celebrities have the power to influence millions, and it breaks my heart when this is abused.” She stressed that such actions not only endanger the individual but also risk inspiring others , especially impressionable youth, to imitate the behavior, potentially leading to fatal accidents.
While Akram clarified she has nothing personal against Hania, she urged her to acknowledge the mistake and use her platform to promote safe riding habits. “It’s not rocket science; it’s illegal and stupid,” she said, adding that even one “stupid post” could lead to countless injuries or deaths.
With over 19 million Instagram followers, Hania’s influence is undeniable. Akram’s message was clear: celebrities may not owe the public their private lives, but they do bear responsibility for what they choose to share, especially in a country where road safety remains a critical issue.
As of now, Hania Aamir has not responded to the criticism, and the controversial video remains live on her profile.
