Saba Qamar Shares Defamation Notice Issued to Journalist Naeem Hanif Over ‘Baseless Claims’

Pakistani star Saba Qamar is not one to stay silent when her dignity is questioned. The Kamli actress has now publicly shared a copy of a defamation notice issued to journalist Naeem Hanif, after he made what she called “baseless and defamatory remarks” about her during a YouTube podcast appearance. The legal move marks a bold stand by the acclaimed actor, who has long advocated for women’s respect and integrity in the entertainment industry.

Taking to Instagram stories, Saba posted screenshots of the legal notice along with a powerful message encouraging others to speak up. “I’ve taken legal action against a journalist who spread false claims about me,” she wrote, adding that no one should tolerate disrespect or allow others to damage their reputation for attention or views.

She urged her followers and fellow artists to stand tall against defamation and misogyny, reminding everyone that “no one has the right to make false accusations or question a woman’s integrity.”

The controversy erupted after Naeem Hanif, during his appearance on RNN TV’s podcast, discussed Saba’s preference for living in Lahore over Karachi. It was when a casual conversation took an ugly turn when Hanif made inappropriate and sexist allegations about Saba, as well as comments targeting actors Natasha Ali and Mishi Khan.

According to the notice shared by Saba, the journalist’s statements were “defamatory, sexist, and derogatory”, attacking her personal and moral character. It further accused Hanif of promoting “the regressive notion that a woman’s success depends on her associations with men rather than talent and merit.”

The notice described his remarks as a “misogynistic spectacle” that had nothing to do with journalism and everything to do with sensationalism. It claimed the statements caused “reputational damage, mental agony, and psychological trauma” to the actor.

Demanding swift action, Saba’s legal team has asked Hanif to remove the defamatory content, issue a public apology, and pay Rs100 million in damages within seven days or face legal proceedings.
