Pakistani music legend Sajjad Ali has clarified that he never gave permission to any Indian television channel to use his songs, after his popular track Raavi was performed on an Indian reality show.

In a video message shared on Instagram, the singer responded to the recent performance of Raavi by two young contestants on the Indian Punjabi singing competition Voice of Punjab Master Champs Season 10.

Sajjad Ali began by thanking his fans across the world for their love and support. He said he appreciates cover versions of his songs and often shares his reaction whenever such performances come to his attention.

However, he said recent social media discussions had created confusion, with some people in Pakistan assuming that he had allowed an Indian TV channel to use his music while not permitting contestants on Pakistan Idol to perform his songs.

Rejecting the claims, Sajjad Ali made it clear that he has never granted copyright permission to any Indian television channel. He said his song was used without his knowledge or approval.

“They are using our song without permission. They neither sought our consent nor obtained any authorization before broadcasting it,” he said.

The veteran singer added that his legal team would contact the relevant Indian channel over the alleged unauthorised use of his copyrighted work.

Speaking about the Pakistan Idol controversy, Sajjad Ali said his position had been misrepresented for almost a year. He expressed disappointment that his remarks were taken out of context, causing misunderstanding among the public.

Sajjad Ali is one of Pakistan’s most respected singers, composers and songwriters, known for his unique voice and contribution to pop and classical music. Over the years, he has delivered several memorable songs, including Babia, Chief Saab, Har Zulm, Cinderella and Raavi.

Singer Abrar-ul-Haq has alleged that the rights to his iconic song “Nach Punjaban” were obtained through forged documents and later used in the Bollywood film Jugjugg Jeeyo without his permission.

Speaking during a recent podcast, Abrar said he had never sold the rights to “Nach Punjaban” to any Bollywood production house. He claimed that when he questioned the song’s use, he was told that the track had been acquired from his friend Haroon Rashid.

Abrar rejected the explanation, saying he had never transferred ownership of the song to Haroon and that “Nach Punjaban” remained his intellectual property. He further alleged that forged documents carrying fake versions of his signature were prepared to justify the song’s use.

The singer claimed that other artists had also faced similar issues, accusing Bollywood of misrepresenting facts to defend its position. When asked about the song’s use in Karan Johar’s production, Abrar said no permission had been sought from him, despite the film being heavily promoted around the track.

Abrar added that he has already filed a legal case and is pursuing the matter in court. The controversy first drew public attention after “Nach Punjaban” was featured in Jugjugg Jeeyo, sparking debate over copyright and intellectual property rights.
