Pakistani actress Saba Faisal is once again facing criticism after sharing remarks on the role of newly married women in their in-laws’ households. The veteran actor, who is a frequent guest on morning talk shows, drew backlash online after advising brides to seek permission from their mothers-in-law before taking rest.
During a recent morning show appearance, Faisal discussed household dynamics following marriage, emphasizing that mothers-in-law often manage hosting duties and other responsibilities when guests visit. She suggested that new brides should not assume they can rest without acknowledgment. “If a new bride feels tired, the mother-in-law should guide her,” Faisal said. “But if nothing is mentioned, the bride should politely ask either her mother-in-law or a married sister-in-law before resting. Direct orders are often not accepted.”
Her comments quickly sparked outrage on social media. Many users criticized her advice as outdated and controlling, with reactions ranging from disbelief to calls for her to stop making public statements. One user commented, “Susral hy ya jail?” (Is it an in-laws’ home or a jail?), while others expressed frustration over what they saw as unnecessary interference in marital matters.
This is not the first time Saba Faisal has come under fire for her views on marriage and domestic life. Earlier, she faced backlash for suggesting brides consult their mothers-in-law on wedding attire, which drew criticism from fellow actors and fans alike. Following the earlier controversy, Faisal issued an apology on Instagram, clarifying that she did not intend to impose restrictions on brides and regretted her choice of words.
