Nabeel Zafar Criticizes Award Shows
Renowned actor and producer Nabeel Zafar recently shared his candid views on award shows, calling out biases in the selection process. Appearing on Faysal Quraishi’s Pressure Buhat Hai podcast, Nabeel criticized the lack of fairness in award distribution and stressed the importance of honoring true talent.
“For me, awards have no personal significance,” Nabeel stated. “Whether national or private, awards are meant to be a form of appreciation. But when recognition is wrongly directed, it discredits those who truly deserve it. That’s disheartening.”
The Dhuwan star specifically highlighted the undue justifications recipients often feel compelled to give, even when receiving prestigious accolades like the Pride of Performance. “It’s disheartening when individuals feel the need to defend themselves, saying they have no political affiliations or motives. Awards should exist but must go to those who genuinely deserve them. Ultimately, real recognition comes from the audience, beginning the moment you step outside.”
A Personal Movement of Nabeel Raza
Nabeel reflected on a deeply personal moment that underscored what recognition truly means to him. “Recently, I met a child with Down syndrome who is a big fan of Bulbulay. His father told me the child believes the show’s world is real. That enthusiasm and love from him—that’s my real award.”
Sharing insights into the creation of Bulbulay, Nabeel revealed the challenges of casting Ayesha Omar, who transitioned from being a VJ to a comedy actor. “Comedy is delicate—too much, and it’s overdone; too little, and it falls flat. Ayesha faced criticism, even from her family, for the show’s ‘nonsensical comedy.’ But I assured her Bulbulay would eventually define her identity, and today, it has.”
In another anecdote shared on the FHM podcast with Adnan Faisal, Nabeel spoke about casting Hina Dilpazeer as Momo in Bulbulay. “We had previously worked together in Burns Road Ki Nilofar, a successful telefilm. When I approached her to play a mother, even though she’s just a few years younger than me, she immediately agreed. That commitment reflects the kind of passion that deserves real recognition.”
Nabeel’s comments offer a thought-provoking take on the entertainment industry, emphasizing that while awards have their place, the truest form of recognition comes from heartfelt connections with fans and meaningful work.

Talking about it, Dr Nabiha Ali Khan said, “I once broke the teeth of a boy who grabbed my dupatta. Often people ask why I don’t wear a dupatta — there is a reason behind it. I used to go to my job wearing shalwar qameez; I used to cover my head and offer prayers five times a day, including Tahajjud. My mother was a veiled woman — no one had ever seen her face. From my father’s side, we are Pakhtoon, and from my mother’s side, we are Syed. Both families are modest; we weren’t allowed to come on media. None of my cousins or siblings ever appeared on TV. They are married and live a private and modest life. I came to the media because of the financial burden after my father’s death. One day, I was coming back from the office when a boy on a bike grabbed my dupatta from behind and pulled it. I was all alone, standing on the road without a dupatta. I was shocked. I looked back and slapped him, and two of his teeth broke — his mouth was bleeding. He called the police. Do you know breaking someone’s teeth is a punishable act? Yes, one thing I did at that time was recite ‘Ya Ali Madad,’ and it gave me strength.”
