Abrar Ul Haq’s Influence on Music Trends Followed by Indian Singers
Abrar Ul Haq is known for bringing Bhangra music into the spotlight in Pakistan. His songs like “Aaja Ni Baija Cycle Tey,” “Preeto,” and “Billo De Ghar” have become classics, often heard at weddings. Recently, Bollywood remixed his song “Nach Punjaban,” showcasing his enduring influence even after his return to music following a departure from politics last year.
In a recent appearance on Ahmed Ali Butt’s show, Abrar discussed how he pioneered the trend of Jatt songs with themes of FIRs and action in their lyrics and music videos. These songs were a hit two decades ago when such gangster-style music was not as common. He noted that Indian singers are now adopting this style, which he appreciates, although it hasn’t been replicated much in Pakistan.
Abrar also addressed the tendency of older singers to criticize new talent, a cycle he himself experienced and now observes among singers of his generation. He emphasized the importance of respecting and enjoying music from every generation.
