Waris Baig Criticizes Coke Studio and Wasim Akram

Waris Baig, a renowned Pakistani singer known for his soulful voice and energetic performances, has recently shared his views on Coke Studio, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Wasim Akram during an appearance on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Excuse Me.

Baig expressed his disappointment with Coke Studio, saying he hasn’t been approached by the show. He suspects it’s because Coke Studio often redoes old songs, while he prefers to create original music. He criticized Coke Studio for mainly reviving old folk tunes and noted that recent seasons have been underwhelming. According to Baig, Coke Studio’s recent attempts have failed to impress, and he believes the show has lost its appeal, even calling it a “joke studio.” He mentioned that he has only done one cover song, “Jaan E Baharan,” which was well-received by his fans.

Baig also commented on Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, suggesting that his rise to fame is questionable. He expressed surprise that Wasim Akram, a respected cricketer, has promoted Khan in his reels, implying that Khan’s singing talent is not up to par. Baig likened this situation to praising an inexperienced bowler over a seasoned one, suggesting that promoting someone like Fateh Ali Khan, who he feels is less skilled, is misleading. He argued that more recognition should go to established talents and hinted that Akram’s endorsement of Fateh Ali Khan might not be justified.

Overall, Baig’s remarks reflect his frustration with current trends in the music industry and his belief that true talent should be properly recognized and celebrated.
