Raj Thackeray Warns Theatres on ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ Release
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has vowed to take action against theatre owners if they screen the Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt in India on October 2.
He firmly stated that the movie will not be allowed in Maharashtra, warning theatres to avoid screening it despite the upcoming release. In a tweet, Thackeray emphasized that while art may transcend borders, this does not apply to Pakistani actors working in India.
“Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s film The Legend of Maula Jatt will soon be released in India. The MNS will not allow it to screen in Maharashtra under any circumstances,” Thackeray said, questioning why films featuring Pakistani actors are permitted for release in India.
Raj Thackeray further urged theatre owners to heed the warning, reminding them of previous actions taken by the MNS in similar situations. Thackeray expressed concerns about potential conflicts, particularly with the Navratri festival approaching, and suggested the state government should prevent the film’s release nationwide.
The Legend of Maula Jatt, a remake of the 1979 classic Maula Jatt, was a box office hit in Pakistan, grossing over ?400 crore globally. The film, featuring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is set to be released in India by Zee Studios and would mark the first Pakistani movie to hit Indian cinemas in 13 years.
