Yasir Nawaz Criticized for Comments on Second Marriage

Yasir Nawaz

Actor, director, producer, and digital creator Yasir Nawaz faced criticism from social media users after his comments on second marriage were deemed irresponsible and unnecessary.

During a conversation on his program, Yasir remarked, “I think the government should pass a law that after every ten to fifteen years, a second marriage should be mandatory for men, and wives should find a match for their husbands. Otherwise, they should be sent to jail.” His wife, Nida Yasir, responded, “He knows he can’t actually do it, so he just brags about a second marriage.”

One social media user commented, “I didn’t expect such irresponsible remarks from an actor like Yasir. Why does a man need a second marriage if his first wife is happy with him?” Another added, “People are struggling with inflation and basic needs. In such times, who can even afford a second marriage?”

Another user questioned, “Why should wives be sent to jail?”

Yasir Nawaz’s remarks came just days after he and his team invited Saqib Sheikh, famously known as Mani, to the show, where Yasir shared his opinions on second marriage.

Known for his hit dramas like Chup Raho, Nadaniyaan, Dil Mom Ka Diya, and Baaghi, Yasir is also popular on social media for his regular vlogging and content creation.

I used to go to my job wearing shalwar qameez; I used to cover my head and offer prayers five times a day, including Tahajjud. My mother was a veiled woman — no one had ever seen her face. From my father’s side, we are Pakhtoon, and from my mother’s side, we are Syed. Both families are modest; we weren’t allowed to come on media. None of my cousins or siblings ever appeared on TV. They are married and live a private and modest life. I came to the media because of the financial burden after my father’s death. One day, I was coming back from the office when a boy on a bike grabbed my dupatta from behind and pulled it. I was all alone, standing on the road without a dupatta. I was shocked. I looked back and slapped him, and two of his teeth broke — his mouth was bleeding. He called the police. Do you know breaking someone’s teeth is a punishable act? Yes, one thing I did at that time was recite ‘Ya Ali Madad,’ and it gave me strength.”
