Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed Under Fire for Roles in ‘Barzakh’ Series

Pakistani stars Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, widely recognized for their on-screen chemistry, are currently facing severe backlash for their roles in the web series ‘Barzakh’. The Barzakh series backlash stems from the show’s controversial themes, which have sparked outrage among Pakistani viewers.
Barzakh Series Backlash: Controversial Themes Spark Outrage
The series, crafted by Pakistani filmmaker Asim Abbasi, marks the return of Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed to the TV screen together after a 12-year hiatus, where they portray step-siblings. While the initial episodes were met with enthusiasm, the third episode triggered controversy. The episode features romantic scenes between two male characters and discuss the topics such as adultery and the indoctrination of children, which many viewers found offensive.
Pakistani audiences have taken to social media to voice their disapproval, arguing that the series violates Islamic principles. They have accused the creators and actors of promoting homosexuality, with calls for a boycott of the series gaining momentum. This backlash has not only targeted the director, Asim Abbasi, but also the lead stars, Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed.
Impact on Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed’s Careers
The controversy has brought unwanted attention to Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed. Fawad Khan, who previously played a homosexual character in the Bollywood film ‘Kapoor & Sons’, is now being criticized for his involvement in yet another project perceived to promote homosexuality. Similarly, Sanam Saeed’s participation in ‘Barzakh’ has been questioned by fans who feel the series undermines societal and religious values.
Despite the negative feedback from Pakistani viewers, the series has been well-received by Indian audiences, highlighting the cultural divide in the reception of such themes.
